Here's what the riders had to say after Sunday's cup race at WWT Circuit:
Kyle Busch- winner:"Only the restart went the way we wanted it to. We were able to get around the outside and push (Kyle) Larsson so he was at the end of (turn) 3 and 4 and I was able to keep the momentum on the high side to take the lead. very important. I think that was the key moment for us to be able to win today. To be able to control the restart for the rest of the race. Kyle is one of the best. To be able to sit here and race a lot with him as part of the Chevrolet Great team. He showed me much respect and I appreciate that. I will reciprocate in the future."
danny hamlin- Second place:"Yeah, I think if it's like it's like 95 degrees with those delays, we're super dialed in; it somehow takes away the advantage we thought we had. I'm really proud of the whole Sport Clips Toyota team - The pit crew made a fantastic job keeping us on it and did a great job for about 60 minutes, we'll have to wait for another guy to get 50 (win).
Joey Logano——Third conclusion:"I'm proud of that fight. We were mediocre, outside the top five all day. There were a bunch of cars that were much better than us. Then we executed and beat some of them in the end. We tried some new things from last year and some lessons learned But overall: ok. We need a solid game. We've been through hell here lately. So a top five, a third and a few points at each stage would be good. Bye."
Kyle Larson- fourth place:"Proud of today's effort. It's been a tough couple of games. We've been good all year, the last two years have been bad and we've got to work on that. The team has put us in a position where we can fight to win. ask for more than that. … I wish I could do better. When I was the leader, I wasn't up front all day, so I didn't know what to expect. I don't know where people go when it restarts and I don't know how far they can go. It surprised me and I lost control. "
Martin Truex Jr.- the fifth place:"I started from the front row and stayed there until stage 1 and thought we could improve a bit and maybe have a chance to play with the trio in front of us. We were penalized in the pit lane and had to go to the back and go from there Just started up a climb. Really tough going through the field. We took some damage when someone's brake rotor exploded and that slowed us down a bit. Really top 5 considering everything we've been through today A really good day for us. Very proud of the effort ."
Ryan Blaney— Sixth place:"We had a good race today. He won the second stage well, second on the first stage. Just lost track position, lost the lead. With a few stops and restarts, we never really got it back. I think [Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin] is very like me. It's just a question of who's in charge. I ended up doing poorly on the restart and dropped to sixth. But overall it wasn't a bad day. It was a good points day too and we'll keep going."
Daniel Suárez— FEMALE 7:"The whole weekend was very rewarding for us. We just lost the second race in qualifying and we really lost it because of me, not because of the car. The car was able to move forward. In the race, the car was strong straight away. It was fun today. and we needed that badly as a team. We needed a result that we deserved and I think it's been a little difficult for us lately. Today, I think we should be in the top 10 or top 5, and we're going home seventh, so let's take that.
Michael McDowell— FEMALE 9:"We learned last year that track position is very important. Last year there was the option to run two tires so we knew this year it would be one. We did it early and got track position but we went out. So we went back. , so we put four, and you're buried there. So we had to try again, put two, there were two left. We never went back to get four. The left tire did a lot of spins, but track position matters. We had a great Ford Mustang from FR8 Auctions so I knew we could have our own. Those last few caveats hurt us a bit, but we were still in the top 10. So it's a good day."
Chris Buscher- 12th place:"It's been a long day, a long race. There were a lot of warnings and red flags. It really started yesterday. I was kind of strapped after qualifying, I just didn't do well. Had to dig in today. Our Fastenal Ford Mustang is really fast. I'm really happy. with it I sometimes have to move a lot around the track. I found the Gateway very fast. I haven't raced here last year and I felt a bit behind. Finally I was there for sure Got something. Honestly, I wish it was a 600 race miles because I feel like we could have been better.
austin cinderrick-Complete 13:"It's definitely frustrating to get a speeding ticket... so I'm a little frustrated with myself. You think something at the end of stage 1 doesn't affect your race but just slows us down. We tried the A series of strategic calls to put our Freightliner Ford Mustang up there. I ended up doing good resets and I think I made the most of it. Those restarts were really tough. Proud of the team effort and proud of the recovery Proud. I definitely did a lot of cleaning to maximize what I think is a top 10 car."
Ryan Press- Finished 17:"It was a really long day. I was fighting a tight car all day and every time we went to the pits my guys would make big adjustments. Just putting us in front and staying there wasn't enough. So many warnings at the end, I just wanted to save the car. After qualifying 29th overall, it wasn't a bad day for us. The fans also gave their all today, it was really fantastic. We just have to keep grinding for a better result.
Eric Jones— Complete 18: "Just an up and down day for #43bomarito.netChevy team. It didn't end the way we wanted it to, but we'll try to improve the car. I think we have a lot of speed, it's just not going the way we want. We're going to work on it and look forward to going to Sonoma (the track) and having a great day. "
Aric Almirola- Finished 19:"We've been battling delivery issues all day and we just can't find it. We're loose for the day and it looks like our car is aerodynamically tight and mechanically loose. Our long-distance pace is really where we are today. All of us, we made it through." the cars at the end of the race but we had a lot of yellow flags in the final stages and we had no chance to pass those cars Drew (Blickensderfer, team boss) had me attacking with new tires in the last 20 laps, I think we could have finished 15th But someone screwed up a corner on the last restart and piled us up and left us behind. Just one of those days. We had to fight to get everything we could.
rico stenhouse jr- Completed 32:"We maintained our track position the way we wanted to. We got points in the stages and I think we had a car in the top eight which is a big difference from last year. places. Improving. We had a pretty good game. Looks like No. 2 (Austin Cindric) is growing No. 3's right for some reason (Austin Dillon) and took Chevrolets for both of us, so it's a shame. We definitely have a car in the top 10 today. "
Tyler Redick- Completed 34:"Our day went poorly from the start, but our McDonald's Camry managed to get through the traffic well, but it only started to pull away from us when the track said it was getting colder. Having such a good car really started to hurt. frustrating, and It seems to be going away. I have a bad feeling it's coming. I'm about to switch back to soft braking but obviously should have thought of that a lap or two ago.
Carson Hocheva- Completed 36:"I thought it was great. Had a great time. I'm so grateful for the opportunity. I don't have a job next year. I know Al Niece and Cody Efaw want me to run for them and I'm going to keep running. But man I'm so thankful they did given me the chance - the chance to drive an Xfinity car and now driving a Cup car and I was 16th... so surreal, it was the first time I thought we were I wish you a good day and great place with Schluter Systems , Celsius, Spire Motorsports, Ryan Sparks and Chevrolet No. 7. I hope the Cup call-up is not the only thing I get in my life.
